Companionship

Companionship

Loneliness can creep in for many reasons – the loss of a loved one, reduced mobility, or family who live far away. Our Companionship service is here to make sure no one has to face the day alone.

A friendly, familiar face can make all the difference: someone to pop in for a chat, share a cup of tea, go for a short walk or help with a favourite hobby. We’re here to bring company, conversation and confidence back into everyday life.

What companionship can look like

Every visit is shaped around the person we’re supporting. That might include:

  • Sitting together for a natter, reminiscing and sharing stories

  • Playing games, doing puzzles or reading aloud

  • Going for a gentle walk or short trip out

  • Watching a favourite TV programme together

  • Helping to keep in touch with family and friends (phone, video call, letters)

  • Simply being there to listen and offer reassurance

Sometimes, just knowing someone is due to visit can be enough to lift the whole day.

Visits as little or as often as you like

We offer companionship visits from 30, 45 or 60 minutes right up to longer visits of up to 8 hours, depending on what you need.

That might mean:

  • A short visit a few times a week for a chat and wellbeing check

  • A regular afternoon for company, activities and a trip out

  • Longer one-to-one support to give family carers a proper break

We’ll always work around existing routines and build a plan that feels natural, not disruptive.

Familiar faces you can trust

All our team members are:

  • Carefully selected for their warm, friendly and respectful approach

  • Fully trained and enhanced DBS-checked

  • Encouraged to build ongoing, genuine relationships with the people they visit

You’ll see the same small group of carers wherever possible, so trust and friendship can grow over time.
