Use and Reuse Scheme
Giving good equipment a second life
Care and mobility equipment can be expensive – and far too much of it ends up sitting in cupboards, garages or even going to landfill. Our Use & Reuse Scheme was created to change that.
Through this scheme, we collect good-quality pre-loved care and medical aids, carefully check and clean them, and then make them available to local people at reduced cost or, in some cases, on loan.
It’s a simple idea with a big impact: families save money, equipment is used for longer, and less goes to waste.
How the scheme works
Our Use & Reuse Scheme follows a clear, safe process:
-
Equipment is donated or returned
Families or organisations pass on good-quality equipment they no longer need. -
We inspect and clean every item
Each piece is checked for condition and safety, cleaned thoroughly and assessed for suitability. -
Items are repaired or refurbished where needed
Where appropriate, we replace parts or carry out simple repairs to bring items back to a good standard. -
Equipment is matched to new homes
Suitable items are then added to our equipment shop or loan stock, ready to help someone else.
If an item isn’t safe or suitable to reuse, we’ll dispose of it responsibly.
What kind of equipment is included?
The exact range changes over time, but our Use & Reuse Scheme typically includes items such as:
-
Wheelchairs and walking frames
-
Rollators and mobility aids
-
Bathroom and toilet aids
-
Bed and chair aids
-
Small daily living aids that make life easier at home
If you’re looking for something specific, just ask – if we don’t have it in stock, we may be able to point you in the right direction.
Safe, clean and ready to use
We know how important safety and hygiene are when it comes to care equipment.
That’s why:
-
Every item is visually inspected and tested where appropriate
-
All equipment is thoroughly cleaned and sanitised before being passed on
-
Anything that doesn’t meet our standards doesn’t go back into use
We’ll always be honest about the condition of an item and what it’s suitable for, and we’ll never recommend something we wouldn’t be happy for our own families to use.
Why choose reused equipment?
There are three big benefits to choosing equipment through our Use & Reuse Scheme:
-
More affordable
Pre-loved equipment is often significantly cheaper than buying new, helping families stretch their budgets further. -
Better for the planet
Reusing good-quality items reduces waste and the environmental impact of constantly manufacturing new products. -
Quicker access to support
When equipment is available locally and affordably, people can get the help they need now, not after weeks or months of saving or waiting.
Donating equipment
If you have care or mobility equipment that’s no longer needed, we’d be very grateful to hear from you.
Donating through our Use & Reuse Scheme means:
-
Your equipment can go on to help someone else locally
-
Items are handled, checked and rehomed responsibly
-
You’re supporting a more sustainable and community-focused way of providing care aids
Get in touch and let us know what you have – we’ll tell you if it’s suitable and arrange the best way to pass it on.
